Coordination for Tecnoform and Prague Glass Artist by Jackie & Partners
For the first time, Tecnoform artists Noriaki Etoh and Megumi Nishihara have combined two unlikely mediums into a new kind of "East meets West" modern art. Glass is born of fire and washi is born of water, combining these two essential elements of life was the inspiration for these works. These four sculptures created for the club floor lounge of a Tokyo hotel combined ancient washi making techniques with glass blowing and cutting expertise of Bohemia. The washi was made in Japan by Tecnoform and the glass was made in Prague. The designs for the sculptures were created in Japan by Tecnoform and Jackie & Partners had the privileged of coordinating with the glass artists in Prague to produce the one of kind glass objects that can only be made with the skills and expertise of the Bohemian glass making tradition.
The two traditional crafts were assembled together with a 3D printed frame that served as the skeleton for the washi that encompassed the glass. The creativity and imagination required to conceptualise these exquisite modern pieces is a testament to the artistic skills of Noriaki and Megumi. Each sculpture is designed to have a LED light placed underneath so the illumination from inside results in light and shadows that transforms the optics of the pieces.
