Hiroaki Sakagami is a legend in his own right. He was born of a prominent family in Kobe, Japan then spent many years of his youth in Paris and traveling around Europe. His originality and elegance manifests in every aspect of his life, and he is greatly loved and admired for it. His life experiences have made him a modern, forward thinking man, but he is a samurai at heart. He is most at peace in his traditional Japanese house in a small farming town outside of Kobe, where he sits by the irori (Japanese sunken hearth), surrounded by flowers, contemplating life or practicing ikebana. Nature is everything to him.

Kobe inspired his love for the sea and ships which are reoccurring themes in his works. He is also a designer and calligrapher. He designs interiors as well as paints fusuma (sliding Japanese doors) for temples around Japan. His talents are as limitless as his personality, always true to his originality and his samurai heart.
