Justo Almendros has a wonderful ability to reach inside his subjects with his camera and reveal the truest representation of them. His photos are loaded with sensuality, passion and seduction. He plays with nuances to expose the zeal and enthusiasm of his subjects. This collection of photographs were shot during the New York Gay Pride Parade that takes place annually in June. Through Justo's pictures the viewer can not just see but also feel what it must have been like to be on the streets of New York that day. The photos convey the culture, the joy, the pride, and the celebration of what it is to be gay. Many images depict people of various appearances and walks of life hanging off the fire escapes of New York's pre-war brick buildings creating their own historical narrative. Exhibitions like these highlight similarities despite the differences we see in other people, and shares an important message about what it means to be human.
