The Church of St. Roch named in honor of the French Saint by the same name, was built in the 17th century by Emperor Rudolf II and the Stranhav Abbot Jan Lohel in Prague. This exceptional space has been the home of the MIRO gallery since 1994. In 2000 the gallery established the Trebbia European Awards, named after the river Trebbia, to honor entrepreneurs, patrons, and artists who promote art and culture.
Jackie & Partners nominated Eriko Horiki because of the ingenious way she uses traditional Japanese washi (Japanese paper) in modern architecture. Horiki's creations are remarkable and timeless and Jackie & Partners thought her work would stand out to the judges of the TREBBIA Foundation.
On March 11th 2012, exactly one year after the devastating Tohoku earthquake in northern Japan, Eriko Horiki was the first Japanese person to be awarded the Trebbia "Creativity 2012 Prize." While at home people were remembering the loss from a year ago, Horiki commemorated the beauty, resourcefulness, and resilience of the Japanese people and culture. In her acceptance speech she dedicated the award to her country.
