And so it begins. A project one and a half years in the making; we are about to embark on the Japan and Korea Tour of the National Symphony Orchestra of Spain!
As it has been over 20 years since the National Orchestra visited Japan, this is a historic moment for both Spain and Japan. The entire tour is recognised and supported by the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo, and the Ambassador, Gonzalo de Benito wrote a message to the audiences that will be included in the concert programs. Below are the official Spanish and Japanese versions of the message with an English translation further down.

“As Ambassador of Spain, for me it is a source of great satisfaction to send these words of congratulations to the National Orchestra of Spain on the occasion of their Japan Tour from 18 to 31 July 2016.

The presentation in Japan of the National Orchestra of Spain, after more than 20 years since the last tour in this country represents a great opportunity to enjoy the best interpretations of our classical music, which will include representative works of our culture as El sombrero de Tres Picos, Danzas Fantásticas, Concierto de Aranjuez, Carmen or Bolero.

Antonio Mendez leads the National Orchestra of Spain; with such youth he already has a brilliant career, and is one of the most outstanding directors on the worldwide music scene.

I would like to thank all those from Spain and Japan who have made this tour of the National Orchestra of Spain possible. Their collaboration has helped further the understanding of Spanish culture in Japan.”
